Dr. Farhina Ahmed joined the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change as the Secretary on May 22, 2022. She has previously held several important positions during her 29 years of employment in the public service, including Additional Secretary of Finance Division, Consultant of Asian Development Bank, Joint Secretary of Finance Division, Project Director of Strengthening Capacity of BCS Administration Academy Project, and Deputy Secretary, Finance Division, Ministry of Finance. Prior to this, Dr. Ahmed worked for the government as a Senior Assistant Secretary for the Ministries of Education, Housing and Public Works, Health and Family Welfare, and Women and Children Affairs. Additionally, she accomplished a number of responsibilities in field administration in various locations throughout Bangladesh after commencing her career in public service as a member of the 11th BCS Administrative Service.

Dr. Farhina Ahmed pursued both Bachelor of Social Science and Master of Social Science degrees from the Department of Political Science, University of Dhaka. Besides, she graduated from Monash University in Australia with another master's degree in International Development (Environment and Sustainability). She also received her PhD from RMIT University, Australia.

Dr. Ahmed has excelled in completing a Diploma in Human Rights of Women from Raoul Wallenberg Institute at Lund University, Sweden. She participated in several training sessions, workshops, and study tours organized domestically and overseas as part of her broad employment track. She visited many nations as part of this, including Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Japan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Denmark, and the United States.
